Any person who specializes in the field of electrical wiring and any related equipment can be called an electricians. People often call up electricians to repair an electrical infrastructure or to install completely new components.

the professional electricians in the USA are often called inside wiremen as they work for homes and apartments. Electricians are also employed at the various theatre companies as they are needed there to hang, focus and operate the stage lights. One may find that the term ‘spark’ is often used to denote an electrician and this is of course slang which is used in many of the countries.

There are many hazards of working as an electrician and therefore in most of the countries the job of being an electrician is a regulated trade. This regulation requires testing, registration or licensing. The licensing of electricians is controlled through either the government or professional societies.

The electricians trade requires the use of a large range of hand tools and power tools. Usually they will have their own set of hand tools and general test instruments and their company or employer will provide the more advanced and costly tools. Some of the tools they use include lineman’s pliers, wire strippers, cable cutters, a multimeter, a solenoid voltmeter, needle-nose pliers and a step-bit.

There are many unions representing electricians, some of which include the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. The electrician trade is one that is always in high demand.
