Qualifications Needed To Be An Electrician
Employment opportunities for electricians are becoming increasingly more evident as the population and economy grows. New government rules regarding electrical safety and increased public awareness are contributing to the high demand for electricians, which will continue to grow in the coming years. With the right qualifications and experience, a person can start on the road to becoming an electrician.
To be an electrician you must be a practical person due to the fact that you will be using your hands and a variety of tools in lots of different areas. You should be methodical and be able to follow guidelines, rules and procedures. You must also be a good problem solver, because it is required that you use your skills and knowledge and apply them to a problem with good attention to detail. You have to have good communication skills, be in good physical shape, and be confident enough to be able to make your own decisions, as well as part of a team. You must also have perfect color vision.
For a younger student, the apprenticeship route is the most common. To be accepted for an apprenticeship, there are certain qualifications such as having GCE’s in math, English and science at a grade C or higher. Many others wanting to become electricians will study the electrical courses on their own time and eventually take the tests to gain the necessary certificates for employment. Yet others participate in electrical home study and distance learning to achieve their goal of becoming an electrician.
